Tamil Nadu: BJP leader arrested after attack on Christian prayer hall in Coimbatore

Tamil Nadu police have arrested four people including a local BJP leader after a Christian prayer hall was vandalized.

A group of people allegedly damaged glass panes and chairs at a prayer hall on the city outskirts, police said.

People in the area had complained about meetings being held during night at the hall, creating a disturbance.

According to reports, Nandkumar, a local BJP leader and three others – all residents of area – have been arrested.

“BJP workers threw chairs asking the group to stop the programme when they were distributing help to local people,” a police officer told NDTV.

Police told the news agency said that those organising such meetings were asked to refrain from doing so.

Referring to the incident police said no permission was taken to organise such a meeting, and police personnel have been deployed at the hall to prevent any untoward incidents.
