Solar Opposites, the adult animated series co-created by Justin Roiland of Rick and Morty fame, has been renewed for season 3. The show, which features the voice talents of Roiland, Thomas Middleditch (Silicon Valley), Sean Giambrone, and Mary Mack, follows four aliens who crash land on earth by mistake, and the misadventures they get up to on the planet they’re now stuck on.
Solar Opposites only debuted on the streaming service on May 8 this year and was initially given a two-season order on the strength of the premise. This week, Hulu announced it’s renewed for season 3, consisting of 12 episodes. The renewal comes in the wake of the news that its premiere was the most-watched original Hulu comedy show ever, and it has already been compared favorably to Rick and Morty. Along with the announcement, Hulu also released a short video promoting the two upcoming seasons. You can see it below.
The news means that Roiland will be a busy man for at least the next two years, given that he’ll be working on two new seasons of Solar Opposites, as well as the highly anticipated Rick and Morty season 5. It will be interesting to see if he has to take a step back from his writing duties on the latter show, or if he will be able to keep up with the demands of two hit animated shows.
The logline for the series reads: Solar Opposites centers around a team of four aliens who escape their exploding home world only to crash land into a move-in ready home in suburban America. They are evenly split on whether Earth is awful or awesome. Korvo (Justin Roiland) and Yumyulack (Sean Giambrone) only see the pollution, crass consumerism, and human frailty while Terry (Thomas Middleditch) and Jesse (Mary Mack) love humans and all their TV, junk food and fun stuff. Their mission: protect the Pupa, a living super computer that will one day evolve into its true form, consume them and terraform the Earth.
