The Batman star Zoë Kravitz discusses the script of the upcoming DC Extended Universe film. The Batman will be a departure for the DCEU, as Robert Pattinson will take over the role of Batman from Ben Affleck. The movie will come out in October of next year, as the coronavirus forced a release delay. It also affected filming on The Batman, which, according to director Matt Reeves, was only around a quarter complete at the time of the shutdown. The movie will feature many classic Batman villains, including Riddler (Paul Dano), Penguin (Colin Farrell), and of course, Catwoman.
Kravitz has previously expressed her excitement about starring in The Batman. Prior to filming, she discussed her costume fittings and revealed she’d been training for the part. Kravitz has also shared her admiration for Michelle Pfeiffer’s performance as Catwoman in 1992’s Batman Returns. In fact, she’s even gone so far as to call it “super inspiring to me.” Fans have also gotten a glimpse of what Kravitz will look like as Catwoman thanks to set photos, though they haven’t seen her in her full superhero outfit yet.
Kravitz discussed The Batman‘s script, as well as what she’s seen of Pattinson’s performance, while appearing on Josh Horowitz’s MTV podcast Happy Sad Confused. She revealed, “It’s great and he is absolutely the man for this job. The script is phenomenal.” Kravitz isn’t the first cast member to sing the script’s praises. Previously, Dano weighed in, calling it “potentially really powerful.” Meanwhile, Farrell discussed his role specifically, citing a couple of “tasty scenes” for Penguin.
Though some is known about The Batman‘s script and story, large parts of it remain a mystery. In fact, the whole project has been shrouded in secrecy, making teases like Pattinson’s Batsuit reveal and set photos shared online even more exciting. It’s fairly normal for a high-profile project like The Batman to be something of an enigma, especially with its release date so far away. Marvel and DCEU films also have to be extra careful about preserving surprises, as spoiling one part of an upcoming film could in turn spoil the franchise’s entire upcoming slate. It will be interesting to see if the secrecy remains until The Batman is released, or if more information will be revealed in the coming months.
Fans should be happy to hear another The Batman star speak about the script in such a positive way. It sounds like Reeves and co-writer Mattson Tomlin have crafted an exciting script that will take the caped crusader in a new direction. It’s hard to know at this point what the future holds for Pattinson’s Batman, as Warner Bros. and DC will want to see how the film does before making any decisions. However, a phenomenal script certainly won’t hurt.
