Suicide Squad 2 Movie Cast & Director Confirmed For DC FanDome Event

Director James Gunn and the cast of The Suicide Squad are confirmed for DC’s FanDome event. Announced earlier today, the DC FanDome will be a virtual, 24-hour convention jam-packed with information about future DC projects. This includes the highly anticipated Snyder Cut of Justice League, The Batman, and, yes, The Suicide Squad. DC FanDome will take place on August 22 and seems to be modeled after San Diego Comic-Con, which is also going virtual this year because of the coronavirus pandemic. Several big name guests will likely make appearances at this convention, though at this time, few people have been confirmed.

The Suicide Squad is among the DC films fans are most excited for, but it also remains one of the most mysterious. Gunn is taking over from previous director David Ayer, though this Suicide Squad movie isn’t supposed to be a direct continuation of what came before. Aside from sharing a few characters, The Suicide Squad looks to be a reinvention of the property. Its lengthy cast list includes Margot Robbie (once again playing Harley Quinn), Idris Elba, Taika Waititi, Pete Davidson, Jai Courtney, Joel Kinnaman, Nathan Fillion, and Viola Davis, along with several others. Unsurprisingly, not all of them are expected to live through the film.

Alongside the announcement video for DC FanDome (which shows The Suicide Squad’s new logo), Gunn revealed on social media that he, along with the film’s cast, will be present at the event. Additionally, Gunn teased “we’re planning so much cool stuff.” Of course, he didn’t elaborate on anything beyond that, but it is still very exciting news.

For fans who have been eager for more information about The Suicide Squad, this will come as a very welcome surprise. Gunn has been tight-lipped about further details surrounding The Suicide Squad’s plot and characters. This could provide the perfect opportunity for some big reveals, like who the new characters will be. Additionally, since The Suicide Squad completed filming earlier this year and has been in post-production ever since, Gunn might actually have some first-look footage to share.

Really, the possibilities about what will be unveiled during DC FanDome are infinite. Beyond Wonder Woman 1984, which was recently bumped to October, The Suicide Squad is the next DC film on the release calendar. This means there’s a good chance a lot of attention will be given to it, especially since Gunn and several cast members will be present. DC fans just have to be patient for two more months, then they might finally get some of the answers they have been waiting for.
