The daughter of President Trump weighed in on the much-discussed Golden Globes speech by TV personality Oprah Winfrey. While some were amused at the endorsement, given Winfrey has been discussed as a 2020 Democratic presidential candidate, others pointed out that Ivanka’s #TimesUp endorsement rang hollow.
Ivanka Trump offered up a rousing endorsement of Oprah Winfrey’s Golden Globes speech on Twitter Monday night, writing, “Just saw @Oprah’s empowering & inspiring speech at last night’s #GoldenGlobes. Let’s all come together, women & men, & say #TIMESUP.”
The first daughter’s tweet followed rampant speculation that Winfrey could be launching a 2020 bid against Donald Trump. In her speech, Winfrey not only condemned that type of sexual harassment and assault for which President Trump has been accused, but also delivered a barely veiled attack on him, saying, “We all know that the press is under siege these days, but we also know that it is the insatiable dedication to uncovering the absolute truth that keeps us from turning a blind eye to corruption and injustice. To tyrants, and victims, and secrets, and lies.”
