After posting a modest target of 120 for New Zealand, Sri Lanka’s stand-in captain Lasith Malinga hoped that his bowlers gave their best performance. But Herath alone was enough to run through the Kiwi batting. In his first over he ran out Martin Guptill and had Brendon McCullum stumped for a duck. He further broke the back of the batting by removing Ross Taylor for a five-ball duck. Herath bagged two in two when he bowled James Neesham for a first-ball duck.
A few moments later Luke Ronchi was walking back out leg-before to Herath. He finally finished off the New Zealand innings with the wicket of Trent Boult.
