Russian security detains Ukrainian citizens on suspicions of preparing subversive acts

Security service busts arms smuggling from EU states to Russia via Ukraine. Russian secret services have detained 25 citizens of Ukraine on suspicion of preparing subversive acts on the territory of Russia, the Moscow-base NTV channel said.
“According to the information from the secret services, the terrorist acts were due to take place from March 14 through to March 16 in the Rostov, Volgograd, Tver, Oryol, and Belgorod regions, as well as in the constituent republic of Kalmykia and Tatarstan,” the report said.
“A total of twenty-five persons including three activists of the Right Sector (Ukraine’s ultra-rightwing radical organization – Itar-Tass) were detained,” NTV said. “They admitted they had been receiving instructions from Ukraine’s Security Service.”
The scope of their tasks believably included gathering the data on redeployments of army vehicles in the parts of Russia adjoining the border with Ukraine and establishing contacts with radical organizations in Russia, the report said.
“And inquest on the detainees is underway and preliminary investigation has begun,” NTV said.

Officials at the law enforcement agencies declined to provide comments on the information but media reports in Russia said earlier that the security forces had detained a group of Ukrainians who had arrived in the Moscow region for organizing the so-called guerilla warfare.
At the end of March, Deputy Plenipotentiary Representative of the Russian President in the Central Federal District Nikolai Ovsiyenko said that the Federal Security Service (FSB) had detained a Ukrainian citizen who had arrived in Russia most obviously for organizing the guerrilla war.

“The so-called Ukrainian leadership is making direct threats of what they call a ‘guerilla war’ on the territory of Russia and a question arises in this connection on whether or not we’re ready for this,” Ovsiyenko said.
“A man who had arrived from Ukraine with a huge arsenal of munitions and explosives – quite possibly, for translating those threats into life – was detained in the Moscow region several days ago,” he said. “All the details of the situation are being clarified now, as a criminal case against him has been instituted.”
On the whole, the crimes related to extremist activities grew almost 20% in the Central Federal District last year. “Given the current developments in Ukraine, this situation is causing a really big concern,” Ovsiyenko said.
