Shillong, February 2, R M Warjri: Over 1000 students belonging to different north eastern states studying in Shillong, on Sunday took out a peace procession and protest march demanding justice for Arunachal youth Nido Tania (19), who died after being assaulted by a group of shopkeepers in New Delhi.

It may be mentioned here, on Thursday last, twenty-year-old Nido Tania who was also the son of Congress’ Arunachal Pradesh legislator Nido Pavitra, was beaten up by a group of shopkeepers following an altercation by their taunts on his hairstyle at Lajpat Nagar in South Delhi.

The rally was organized by the Arunachal Students Union Shillong (ASUS) with the support of the Khasi Students Union (KSU).

The protester demanded the Centre to put an end against racism and discrimination against North East students and people working and studying in Delhi and displayed placards demanding that such inequality treatment should be stopped.

The ASUS President Mr Kaykar Dulom said, “We want justice and that the perpetrators of the heinous crime should immediately be arrested and punished as per law.” He also condemned the Delhi police, especially those deputed in the area for failing in their duty, to stop the crime from taking place.

He also said that through this peace rally the students want to send a strong message across the country that they too are part and parcel of India and therefore not to victimize them.
