Maharashtra: Andheri BJP MLA does sting on illegal dance bar

MUMBAI: BJP Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Andheri (W), Ameet Satam, helped police register three complaints against the Natwar Bar in the area for hosting dances without proper permissions. He even provided a three-minute video to the police as evidence.

The action was part of the night vigils that the MLA started recently following numerous complaints regarding roadside eateries and illegal dance bars in the area. Every night, Satam and a few other men take rounds and identify law and order issues.

“I have a three-minute video of the Natwar Bar, wherein girls are dancing in front of customers and hotel staffers are serving liquor,” said Satam. Based on the video, the D N Nagar police registered a complaint.

Explaining the modus operandi of such bars, Satam said, “Police do visit all the dance bars every two hours to check if something illegal is happening. But when the cops come, the bouncers at the gate press a buzzer, alerting the staffers inside. The girls immediately stop dancing and sit on chairs slotted for orchestra singers.”

He added, “I conducted a surprise check. Not even my volunteers knew about it. Only the person we sent inside as a customer was in the loop, and he only shot the video. I didn’t even use my own car.”
