A day after reports emerged that Pak High Commisissioner has extended invitation to separatist leaders for Sartaj Aziz’s reception party, Indian government has responded strongly.

Top Hurriyat leaders Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Syed Ali Shah Geelani and Abbas Ansari are currently under house arrest.

On Wednesday, Pakistan High Commissioner Abdul Basit extended an invitation to the Hurriyat chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani and other Hurriyat leaders for Pakistan NSA Sartaj Aziz’s reception party to be held on August 23.

Along with Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and other leaders have also been invited. Aziz will arrive in the national capital on August 23 for the NSA-level talks with his Indian counterpart Ajit Doval.

Spokesman of the Geelani-led faction Ayaz Akbar told PTI that “Chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani was invited for the talks with Pakistan NSA Sartaj Aziz. A decision on whether to accept the invitation will be taken at a meeting of the Hurriyat Conference.”

Govermment souces on Wednesday said that they would respond approproately if Aziz indeed meets the separatist leaders. But with Hurriyat leaders now under house arrest, chances of such meeting lessens considerably.
