Ram Lakhan and Hero — both Jackie Shroff-starrers are being remade and this makes the actor very happy. “It feels great and honestly, I take great pride in the kind of cinema I have been a part of when we had started,” the actor told us.
While he has told AfterHrs that he’d prefer Sidharth Malhotra playing him in the Ram Lakhan remake, Sooraj Pancholi has alredy finished shooting for Hero… Ask him about the boy and he says, “I like his look and his physique. Both kids (Athiya Shetty being the other ‘kid’) look lovely in the trailer. It’s a fabulous trailer. I always wish the best for all the kids who work hard. They deserve superb results,” he says.
Hero made Jackie an overnight star. Will the remake do the same for Sooraj? “Sooraj has everything in him to become a star. With Hero, he’s surely going to be a craze, too,” he assures.
With Sooraj slipping into Jackie’s boots, there are bound to be comparisons. But Jackie begs to differ. “The original film released more than 30 years ago. A lot has changed now. They must have changed the story a bit. They must have not kept it the same. I have no idea how they’ve adapted it. They must have done things to suit the little boy here.”
Did Sooraj come to Jackie for advice? “No. Thank God, he didn’t,” he chuckles. “For remakes, you should never take advice or build your character on the person who played it in the original. I did and I didn’t see Motilalji’s Chunnibabu. I did it the way the director handled me. Now I am doing the Warrior remake (Brothers) but I haven’t seen that film or studied Nick Nolte. So Sooraj should never model his character on me. That’s why he’ll rock.”
While he has no idea how director Nikhil Advani has altered the script, he did reveal that Salman spoke to him about producing the film. “We had no talks about the role, just that he was remaking Hero. Also, they had approached me to play Sooraj’s father in the film but dates clashed and I could not do it. I was doing Happy New Year then, so I could not do Hero. It would have been amazing but somehow my schedules were tight. I wish I could do it,” he rues.
So will he watch it when it releases? “Yes, I will definitely go and watch the film at a theatre.” His favourite line from the trailer? “Pyaar karne waale kabhi darrte nahi.”
