Union Minister Harish Rawat will take oath as Chief Minister of Uttarakhand

Dehradun, 01-2014 (BBC): Congress Congress co-incharge for Uttarakhand Sanjay Kapoor said Ambika Soni, Janaradhan Dwivedi and Ghulam Nabi Azad were here as central observers to preside over a meeting of the CLP to finalise the name of the new Chief Minister and finally Janaradhan Dwivedi has declared Harish Rawat as new Chief Minister.

Earlier, Harish Rawat, who is tipped to be appointed as the new Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, today arrived here to a resounding reception by his supporters amid beating of drums and presentation of Kumaoni folk dances. Though his appointment as the new Chief Minister is being considered almost final, a formal announcement in this regard will be made after a meeting of the CLP which is scheduled to begin shortly at the Bijapur state guest house in the presence of central observers.
Harish Rawat is a politician from Indian National Congress party and a member of the 15th Lok Sabha. Previously he was a Member of the Parliament of India representing Uttarakhand in the Rajya Sabha, the upper house of the Indian Parliament (2002–2008). He was a Minister of State in the Union Cabinet in the Ministry of Agriculture and Parliamentary Affairs but was given cabinet rank and charge of Water resources in cabinet reshuffle that happened on 28 October 2012.
