Police fires at protesters; one dead in Jammu and Kashmir

Srinagar(web team): Protesters marching against killing of a youth from Tral in Pulwama and the arrest of Hurriyat leaders, including separatist Masarat Alam were fired upon by police.

Police fired against protesters in Srinagar leading to one person being dead, as per news channel report. One person has been injured. The protesters were been marching against the detention of Masarat Alam and other Hurriyat leaders. The report claims that police clashed with protesters in other areas of the valley.

A complete shutdown is being observed across the Kashmir valley on Saturday on the call of Hurriyat hardliner Syed Ali Shah Geelani. Geelani has called the bandh over the killing of a youth from Tral in Pulwama and the arrest of Hurriyat leaders, including separatist Masarat Alam.

All shops, businesses, government offices, schools and other establishments are closed and public transport is off the roads. The authorities have deployed police and CRPF jawans to stop any type of protest.
