Mumbai(ANI): Five men, reportedly attached to Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), have been arrested by the Marine Drive police on charges of rioting and tearing a banner of former Sheriff of Mumbai, Nana Chudasama.
Those arrested have been identified as Tushar Shaliman, Arvind Gawde, Shrikant Gorivale, Rajendra Patel and Rajendra Kalekar.
According to the police, around 4.15pm on Wednesday, 10 to 15 men from MNS barged into Chudasama’s office on the 1st floor of China Mahal, Sundermal Junction at NS Road and tore off the banner and set it on fire in front of the media. The protesters were also shouting slogans against Chudasama.
The protest was against Chudasama’s ‘anti-Marathi’ banner which read: Promoting Marathi welcome. Diktats not welcome.
Reacting to the protest, Chudasama’s daughter and Bharatiya Janata Party spokesperson Shaina NC, said, “Tell me, what is wrong in this banner. It is not anti-Marathi. You can’t barge into an 84-year-old’s office and burn a banner.”
“The arrested persons have been charged with rioting and relevant sections of Criminal Amendment Act. They were produced before a local court which remanded them in police custody till April 18,” said an officer from Marine Drive police station.
