Shilpa Shetty and husband Raj Kundra have moved on from the IPL, having given up their stake in Rajasthan Royals. Raj, however, is also the owner of Super Fight League (SFL) which gives aspiring fighters a platform to showcase their mixed martial arts skills. Since its inception in 2012, SFL recently went international.
While one has seen his wife being closely involved with sport – be it cricket or SFL, it is quite endearing to know that their two and a half year old son, Viaan is quite the sports enthusiast too. Says Raj, “Viaan is a full on action hero. He keeps saying, ‘Daddy, I want to fight the bad people.’ He is constantly kicking and punching. In fact, he is quite interested in cricket too. For a two-and-a-half-year-old, he is pretty active”.
About the SFL, he says, “More than a business idea, SFL is my baby. I don’t treat it any differently. I am just glad that we have been able to pick kids off the street who were involved with illegal underground fighting and give them a means to make a decent living. In fact, one of our female fighters is also being launched in a Bollywood film for which she has finished shooting. Another fighter is working on training Ranbir Kapoor for a film. Bollywood is supporting us thoroughly.”
Ask Raj if he’s following the World Cup and he admits, “Of course, I am. India’s playing very well at the moment and I am looking forward to the boys bringing home the cup!”
