Islamabad(PTI): In an exclusive interview with Zee TV, the former president recalled how Dhoni spearheaded the team during the last world Cup.

Gen Pervez Musharraf, former president of Pakistan, wished the Indian cricket team good luck on the eve of the much-awaited cricket match between arch rivals India and Pakistan for the World Cup Cricket tournament. In an exclusive interview with Zee TV, the former president recalled how Dhoni spearheaded the team during the last world Cup. He heaped praise on Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni. He said that people enjoy watching Dhoni’s aggressive batting and wished the Indian captain all the best.

However, he also said that as a patriotic Pakistani, he would like Pakistan to win the match. He also accepted that India’s team is superior to that of Pakistan. “With a batting line-up comprising Virat Kohli and Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the Indian team looks stronger. But, as far as the Pakistani team is concerned they have the potential to defeat the best team and they could lose a match against the worst team,” he said.

Musharaff said that cricket diplomacy should be used for the betterment of bilateral relations. He said that it should not be used to enhance bitterness and increase tension. “Game should be taken in sportsman spirit…I remember one particular match in Lahore where Indian team was playing and the entire Lahore crowd was cheering up , and both the nations are very enthusiastic about it.

Commenting on Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s telephonic conversation with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif , Musharraf said that it will help in melting the frozen ice and would ease the tension.
