New Delhi(Web TEAM): Union Minister of State for Minority Affairs, Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi was convicted on Wednesday by a court in Uttar Pradesh for poll code violation six years ago. He was sentenced to one year in jail and a fine of Rs 4,000. However, Naqvi was then released on a surety of Rs 15,000.
Naqvi was taken into custody for alleged poll code violation during the 2009 general elections. A court in Rampur had sentenced him to one year imprisonment for violating the Model Code of Conduct.
In the 2009 national election, Mr Naqvi’s convoy was stopped by the police for checking but his supporters protested and staged a sit-in outside a police station. Mr Naqvi reportedly addressed a speech at the spot, and was charged with “unlawful assembly.”
