Teacher’s Job Scam: Opposition demands resignation of Urban Affairs Minister

Shillong, January 31, R M Warjri: The UDP, an opposition party in the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly on Thursday demanded the resignation of Urban Affairs and the then Education Minister Smti. Ampareen Lyngdoh for her alleged role in the Teacher’s job scam.

At a press conference held in the city on Thursday, UDP acting General Secretary Shri Allan Dkhar said, “We demand the minister to step down immediately”.  He also stressed on the need to review and re-investigate into the entire scam.

The scam which was unearthed in 2011 was handed to the CBI for further investigation after the intervention of the High Court Shillong Bench. The CBI in its report had named five cabinet ministers, then Assembly Speaker and six legislators in the Congress-led coalition government besides other politicians for tampering with the score-sheets of the candidates applying for the post of assistant teachers in 2010.  In this regard, an FIR was lodged with the police by a woman social activist, but till date there have been little actions taken against the minister.

The UDP leader also added that under which law in the country, the minister is protected and that the accused is still holding the position of a minister.

It may be mentioned here that the High Level Scrutiny Committee (HLSC) set up by the state government has recommended to terminate as many 246 lower primary school after whose service have been found tainted.
