CPIM activists attacked in Tirur and 4 held

Tirur, January 30, Sreeparvathy K: CPI(M) activists in Tirur were attacked allegedly by the SDPI activists. The attack was in open place in broad daylight in the middle of many people.

The attack happened during the celebrations of the Mangala panchayath by election. CPI(M) Purathoor local committee member AK Abdul Majeed, 55 and Eespadathu Arshad, 35 were assaulted. Police said that SDPI is behind the attack. Police has registered case against nine persons.

Chief Minister Oommen Chandy announced that strict actions will be taken against the culprits and nobody will be allowed to take law into their own hands. Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala said that the attackers were identified and soon they will be brought under the law.

CPI(M) State Secretary Pinarayi Vijayan claimed that the Tiroor attack has brought the Muslim league’s terrorist connections to the forefront. CPI(M) leader Kodiyeri Balakrishnan alleged that SDPI is behind the attack. Meanwhile TK Hamsa MLA has stated that this has nothing to do with Muslim league. Popular front’s K Muhammad Ali said that this was a League-CPI(M) conflict and popular front is not involved.
