New fan art has been released that imagines what Game of Thrones actor Nikolaj Coster-Waldau could look like as Adam Warlock in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. After initially being fired from the project, director James Gunn will be returning to helm the sequel, once he finishes his work on The Suicide Squad, another highly anticipated comic book film. Though the sequel does not have a release date as of now, Gunn has said that it won’t be released until after 2021. This hasn’t stopped fans from speculating what the third installment could be about and who may make an appearance.

Adam Warlock came from creators Stan Lee and Jack Kirby and made his debut in the comics in 1967. In the comics, the character was created when scientists on Earth, who called themselves the Enclave, created a perfect, artificial human being, known simply as “Him.” After turning on his creators, Warlock ultimately left Earth and decided to travel into space, where he crosses paths with a myriad of colorful characters, including the High Evolutionary, who gives him the name “Warlock.” He eventually obtains the Soul Gem, which gives him incredible powers. Though the character has strong ties to the Infinity Gauntlet and Infinity Stones, Warlock didn’t make an appearance in either Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, but could show up in a Guardians of the Galaxy sequel.

In a new piece of fan art designed by artist Psychboz, actor Nikolaj Coster-Waldau is imagined as Adam Warlock in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. The image shows Waldau in costume as the character, his eyes and face glowing yellow, sporting the character’s blond hair as well. The artists original Instagram post can be seen below:

In the mid-credits scene for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, a cocoon believed to contain Adam Warlock was revealed, teasing the character’s possible future debut. Though this tease certainly elicited palpable excitement from fans, updates about the character’s live-action debut have remained scarce. When asked who would be playing Warlock, Gunn played coy about the character appearing in the sequel. This has led many fans to believe Warlock may not appear in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 at all. That being said, several actors have been imagined as Adam Warlock in fan art, including Zac Efron.

Warlock would be a terrific addition to the MCU, especially considering his ties to the Infinity Stones. His character would blend perfectly with the colorful Guardians of the Galaxy characters, especially if the role is cast perfectly. Coster-Waldau is an inspired choice for the character, not only in his physical appearance but also because of the sheer gravitas he can bring to any role. This piece of fan art shows that he would fit the aesthetic look of the character well. However, fans will just have to wait and see if Adam Warlock will even be involved in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
