Agent Carter Actress Denies Agents of SHIELD Season 7 Cameo

Agent Carter actress Hayley Atwell confirmed she would not make an appearance in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 7. After seven years, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is concluding. No one knows how the long-running thriller will end, but Daisy Johnson’s actress, Chloe Bennet, stated the finale wouldn’t be as divisive as Game of Thrones.

Quite a few things are happening in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. The first two episodes saw the heroes in 1931 New York City, working to save Hydra from the Chronicoms. In the midst of this, Agent May woke up and seems to be off since her “death” in season 6. The most recent episode, “Alien Commies from the Future!” had the agents travel to 1955. In perhaps the most anticipated aspect, Agent Carter’s Daniel Sousa returned after a four-year absence from the television screen. The character is returning in this week’s episode as well, though the preview hints it will not end well for him. With Sousa having appeared and Peggy Carter being directly mentioned, viewers were likely hoping the fan-favorite agent would make an appearance. There was a report a while back claiming Peggy would appear. Sadly, it sounds like that is not in the works.

Over on Hayley Atwell’s Instagram (via ComicBook), the Agent Carter actress replied to a fan who had hoped to see her coming up in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Atwell plainly answered, “No,” followed by a peace emoji. Check out the comment in the image below.

Fans will no doubt be disappointed by this news. Agent Carter ended prematurely, with no conclusion to her storyline on the television screen. Fans were probably hoping a cameo might wrap up some loose threads left by Agent Carter season 2. At the very least, her story is alluded to in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s recent episode, even if she didn’t appear. Some might think Atwell could be hiding a cameo. Tom Ellis, who portrays Lucifer Morningstar in Lucifer, initially denied a cameo in Crisis on Infinite Earths. That later turned out to be untrue to keep his appearance a surprise. The difference, though (besides the fact he was seen on the Crisis set beforehand), is that Ellis was asked in person while Atwell responded to an online comment. Thus, it’s best to do away with any hope of her appearing.

Although Peggy’s lack of appearance will undoubtedly be felt, there are still things to look forward to coming up in season 7. The big thing fans can anticipate is the characters receiving satisfying endings. Bennet said season 7 would give everyone a “fitting ending.” After several years on the air, fans would agree the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. characters deserve a satisfying close.
