Exclusive city buses with CCTV cameras inaugurated for women in Guwahati

Guwahati, 23 July-2014, Indilens Web Team: Guwahati city today marked the exclusive inauguration of buses those will run for women only. The city buses are inaugurated with Chief Secretary Jitesh Khosla flagging off the service from the Judge’s Field today.

The city bus service for women will operate between 7 am and 11 am and 3 pm to 8 pm every day. These buses will initially run from Khanapara to Kachari and will be extended to rest of the city later on.

The buses will have CCTV cameras and also the presence of lady police. Male children below eight years will also be able to ride in these buses.

12 women conductors have started working from today in six private all-woman buses. In a first-of-its-kind move, the women underwent training, officials said.

The 12 women were trained by the DTO in Guwahati. “Safety of passengers, especially women, is a major worry for us. We were planning to train women as conductors for quite sometime. Let’s see how things work out,” DTO (licence and registration) Gautam Das had said.
