Magic head coach Steve Clifford taken to hospital after feeling ill during game, ‘cardiac issues’ not being ruled out

Orlando Magic head coach Steve Clifford left Friday night’s game against the Minnesota Timberwolves in the third quarter after feeling ill, and was taken to a Minnesota-area hospital.

John Denton of OrlandoMagic.Com reports that, according to a Magic official, “cardiac issues possibly playing a role in the illness are not being ruled out.”

Clifford, 58, is in his second season as Orlando’s head coach, after serving as head coach for the Charlotte Bobcats/Hornets for the five seasons before that.

Tyrone Corbin replaced Clifford as head coach in the third quarter, and the Magic went on to win 132-118.

UPDATE: Steve Clifford “was diagnosed with dehydration and discharged from a Minneapolis hospital,” according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. Clifford is cleared to resume coaching.

That’s certainly great news to come out of a scary situation.
