Cadillac announced in a press release today that the newest version of its luxury SUV will feature a 38-inch OLED screen. A promotional video shows the interior of the 2021 Escalade as the screen lights up behind its steering wheel and across its dashboard.

According to the company, the display will feature “twice the pixel density of a 4K television.” OLED displays allow for deeper blacks and higher picture quality than LED displays due to the way they handle light.

While Cadillac, a division of General Motors, would not comment on what customers can expect to see on the screen, presumably it’ll be used at least partially as a high-tech alternative to the traditional car dashboard. There’s a hint that comes from Cadillac’s existing technology, too.

Current Escalade models are available with Cadillac’s version of hands-free driving, or “semi-autonomous” driving, which it calls Super Cruise — housed at the top of the steering wheel and seen as a lit-up green bar. The promotional video for the 2021 model begins with a similar green bar visible in the same location, suggesting it too could come with Super Cruise.

“From the highway to the big screen, the Escalade has been embraced by drivers and fans around the world,” Cadillac President Steve Carlisle said in the announcement.

The company plans to unveil the 2021 Escalade in Los Angeles on February 4th — just days before the Oscars.
