Teenager threatens woman to extort Rs. 2,000 by uploading photos and contact details on web

SURAT, 16 July-2014, Yagnesh Mehta/TNN: A teenager uploaded photo and contact details of a Surat based doctor’s wife on social networking website portraying her as prostitute after sending threat messages on Whatsapp to extort Rs 2,000. The doctor’s wife started receiving call from unknown numbers after which the couple approached police.

Police arrested a 17-year-old teenager from Gadhda town of Bhavnagar on Tuesday night for the threat messages and uploading photographs and mobile number of the victim on social networking sites.

The 30-year-old doctor and his wife started receiving threat messages through Whatsapp on his mobile demanding Rs 2,000 from a mobile number 9662796119 on July 8. The accused threatened to put the wife’s photographs and mobile number on internet portraying her as prostitute. The accused further demanded to develop physical relation with wife of the doctor through messages on Whatsapp.

The doctor refused to submit to demands of the accused after which the accused put mobile number and photographs of wife on website. The accused sourced the victim’s photograph through her social networking pages. The wife started receiving several calls on her mobile from unknown numbers since her number was put on net by the accused with photographs.

Following the harassment the doctor approached police on Monday and lodged a complaint. Police identified the accused through his mobile number and traced him in Gadhda village of Bhavnagar district. Police are investigating the case to find out that how the accused sourced mobile numbers and social networking site pages of the victims.

“We are investigating that how the accused sourced mobile numbers of the victims. We will investigate that why the teenager did this,” said V D Vala, police inspector of Kapodra police station.
