5 Reddit Subreddits You Wouldn’t Believe Exist (Which Are Not Porn)

Reddit bills itself as “the front
page of the Internet” with communities (subreddits) on every conceivable
subject. Reddit is the natural evolution of the old-style forums which
dominated Web 1.0 and the voting buttons democratizes what gets seen and what doesn’t.

The fact that you can start a
subreddit on any legal topic means there is some crazy stuff on there, a lot of
which you won’t realise exists unless you are actually searching for it.

So in the name of research, I went
hunting for the 5 weirdest subreddits which aren’t porn. “Weird” is obviously
subjective – what I find weird, you may find perfectly normal. So feel free to
challenge my opinions.

All hail to the letter G! This
subreddit is for people who love the letter G in all of its forms and who quite
frankly have a weird fetish for it (I suppose there are worse fetishes in the
world).

What’s amusing is that in the
comments, people just write GGGG or some other variation.

I am more of a Q man myself to be
honest.

ToastersGW

If you thought a subreddit devoted
to the worship of the letter G was rather eccentric, then you haven’t seen
anything yet. I now present to you Toasters Gone Wild. A parody of the porn
reddits, Girls Gone Wild, this very safe for work reddit has toasters which
people find “interesting”.

I mean, look at this sexy Avanti
with its toaster and toasting oven, where the temperature can soar from “warm”
to “hot”!

The titles to each submission are
rather sexually suggestive and explicit, but the photos themselves are not.
They are just toasters (but boy, they are good looking toasters!).

Pyongyang

When I saw this one, I honestly
thought it was a satire of all the North Korea memes where Kim Jong Un walks
around with fawning notebook-carrying deputies. But in actual fact this seems
to be an actual official subreddit by the North Korean government themselves!

Since it is basically propaganda,
its entertainment value is extremely limited (unless you like statistics on
crop quotas). But the fact that North Korea feels it needs to maintain a
presence on Reddit of all places…..who are they trying to woo exactly?

My Evil Plan

Do you fancy yourself as a Doctor
Evil? Do you have evil plans to take over the world or just to do some evil?
This subreddit doesn’t condone cruelty or anything. It’s more of a pranking
site combined with people wanting to get justice for someone else.

So one person asks what he should
do with the phone number of a cheating guy pressuring his girlfriend to get an
abortion. Someone else got scammed on eBay and wants advice on how to scam the
scammer to give the guy a taste of his own medicine….that sort of thing.

There’s no nuclear missiles being
stolen and no world being held to ransom for ONE MILLION DOLLARS!

Chairs Underwater

If you thought Toasters Gone Wild
was a bit eccentric, then you obviously haven’t met Chairs Underwater yet. Who
knew there was a community out there who got so fascinated with chairs sitting
in water or underwater?

I mean, the very first post on the
page says that any picture of a chair not completely underwater should be
marked as NSFW (not safe for work). Basically porn.

Some of the pictures are extremely
weird, such as this one. It’s so spooky that it looks like the deck of the
Titanic.

Conclusion

The great thing about the Internet
is its democracy. People can form communities on any niche they want without
fear of recrimination. If you want to know how strange some sections of society
are, you only need look as far as Reddit.
