Eight Militants arrested in Meghalaya

Shillong, January 30, R M Warjri: The Special Weapons and Tactics Police of Meghalaya (SWAT) were able to arrest eight militants. The arrested militants included five from Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) and three from the break away faction AVNC(B).

The five militants of GNLA were intercepted during the operations launched jointly by the SWAT,CRPF, BSF and the State Police at Dorangre village in West Khasi Hills District on Wednesday forenoon. The crackdown was launched in view of the extortion spree the GNLA militants were carrying out in the coal belts of the district.

West Khasi hills SP S Nongtnger informed that the police have seized 2 pistols, 2 Magazine, 7 live ammos, 3 mobile sets with sims, 21 dry cell and the bolero camper that was used for travelling.

In another incident three militants, belonging to the Achik National Volunteers, – Breakaway (ANVC-B) were arrested from Baghmara market in South Garo hills district on Tuesday. According to the police, these militants were arrested while they back after collecting money from the town businessmen. The three were arrested along with demand notes and ammunition for AK series rifle. The police of these two district are carrying out the investigations on the arrested militants.
