12-Yr-Old Hostage Killed By Militants Despite Family’s Emotional Appeal To Release Him

Boy Killed Hostage Militant

A 12-year-old boy, who was held hostage by militants in Hajin area of Bandipora district in Jammu & Kashmir for more than nine hours, was killed by militants on March 22, reported The Indian Express. The boy’s uncle who was also held hostage was rescued by the police on Thursday night. The two militants who had held the boy and his uncle hostage were later gunned down by the security forces.

The ambush started after the security forces conducted a cordon and search operation after they received a piece of intelligence information about militants being at Hajin area of Bandipora district.

Family kept pleading for returning him safely

Atif Mir’s mother Shareefa Jan’s hope that her son might return was shattered when the militants refused to let the boy out even after several pleas on loudspeaker by the family. A Jammu and Kashmir Police spokesperson said that two Lashkar-e-Taiba militants had taken two civilians as hostages. He said that Arif was killed by the militants and police have decimated these two militants.

Atif, who had applied for admission in Sainik School and Kendriya Vidyalaya and his uncle, Abdul Hameed (60) were held hostages in their own home when the two militants took shelter at their place after the armed forces cordoned off the area.

Sareefa Jan questioning the reason for killing his son while speaking with The Indian Express asked what her 12-year-old son did to them (militants)? After the operation was completed, the charred body of Atif was taken out of the debris of their house. The cops identified that the killed militants as Hubaib and Ali, both of them found to be Pakistani nationals.

Several videos of family pleading the militants to leave Atif surfaced on various social media platforms on Friday. In a video, it was found that a woman from the family pleaded the militants to release the boy and asked mercy to be shown upon the family.

Mohammed Shafi Mir, the boy’s father indicating at the delay in operations said that the officers tried their best to rescue the boy, but militants never released him. Rahul Malik, SSP Bandipora said that Ali, one of the slain militant wanted to marry the daughter of the owner of the house. He said, “The terrorists killed the minor boy in revenge”.
