Ramdan fasting: Tamil Nadu govt to allocate 4,500 tonnes of rice to mosques

CHENNAI, 27 June-2014, B Sivakumar/TNN: Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa on Wednesday announced 4,500 tonnes of rice to mosques to prepare gruel during the Ramzan festival.

In a statement, the chief minister said following requests from the Muslim brethren, the government has resorted to the total allocation of rice to mosques in an attempt to make it available to them easily.

District collectors had been instructed to conduct a survey of the mosques and provide rice, said the chief minister.

Nearly 3,000 mosques across the state will benefit from this allocation, the chief minister added.
