This proposal for introduction of three new commissionerates was submitted by the State police to the Home Department recently to tackle with the increasing law and order challenges in these three cities.
The grant for the creation of commissionerate is given by the Urban police Act. This Act allows the creation of commissionerate only in the plale which have municipal corporations. Between the three cities only one of them have a municipal corporation. Currently, only Berhampur has a municipal corporation. But the civic bodies of Rourkela and Sambalpur have not yet received an official status for corporation.
