Dehradun, June 14(IANS): A total of 700 cadets passed out from the Indian Military Academy (IMA) here Saturday of which 636 joined the Indian Army while the remaining were foreign cadets, an official said.

The foreign cadets are from Bhutan, Ethiopia, Papua New Guinea and Afghanistan. After the passing out parade, the 636 cadets got their lieutenant’s pips.

The IMA has trained 55,000 officers in its 81 years of existence, the official told IANS.

The maximum number of new officers belong to Uttar Pradesh (121) followed by Haryana (62) and Uttarakhand (57), the official said.

The Sword of Honour was awarded to Vishnu Pitambaran of Kerala. Nepal army chief Gen. Gaurav Shamsher Jang Bahadur Rana was present at the passing out parade alongwith IMA Commandant Lt. Gen. Manvendra Shah and army training command chief Lt. Gen. Sanjeev Mandok, the official added.
