It should be noted that some unidentified miscreants brutally killed journalist Tarun Kumar Acharya near the Khallikote police station on the outskirts of Khallikote town in Ganjam district on Tuesday night.

According to reports, Tarun Kumar Acharya (35) of Bikrampur, about 15 km away from Khallikote, was attacked with sharp weapons by the miscreants at a lonely place near the Khallikote police station and Excise office at around 10.30 pm on Tuesday when he was returning to his village.

After getting information from the locals, the police and several mediapersons rushed to the spot and found Tarun’s body lying in a pool of blood with his throat slit open.

Khallikote MLA Purna Chandra Sethi, BJD Town president Narendra Patra and NAC councilors also reached the spot.

Sources said Tarun, who was working as a stringer for a television news channel, had written a report against some influential persons for creating nuisance in his area. The miscreants might have killed the scribe to take revenge of that report, added the sources.

Though the actual reason behind the murder is yet to be known, the police suspected past rivalry as the cause of murder. The police have launched a massive manhunt to nab the killers. All the entry and exit points of the town have been sealed while the police are checking all vehicles, the reports said.
