Mumbai, 25 May-2014: With money, you can build dreams. This is what our film stars have done. A look at the palatial abodes of Bollywood stalwarts like Rajesh Khanna, Amitabh Bachchan, SRK and many others.
Mannat is a dream Shah Rukh Khan built. Coming to Mumbai with no godfather in showbiz, SRK’s extravagant abode at Bandstand, Bandra stands testimony to his unprecedented rise as a superstar.
Bollywood celebrities and their grand bungalows
Legendary lyricist Gulzar has a bungalow in Pali Hill named Boskiyana, which is named after his daughter Meghana Gulzar, who is lovingly called Bosky.
The affluent Kapoors, Rishi, Neetu and Ranbir, reside at Krishna Kunj in Pali Hill, Bandra.
Rekha’s bungalow at Bandra, Sea Spring, is as closely guarded as her personal life. With trees and the bamboo barricade, hardly any portion of her house is visible.
The Bachchans own two sprawling bungalows in Juhu, which are just a kilometre apart. Amitabh, Jaya, Abhishek and Aishwarya Rai reside in Jalsa.
Big B’s younger brother Ajitabh now lives in Prateeksha. Both houses are nothing short of tourist attractions in the city.
Imran Khan’s 24 Pali Hill residence belonged to the actor’s grandfather, filmmaker Nasir Hussain. Khan has named the bungalow NH in the latter’s memory. The house was also the venue of Imran’s wedding to Avantika, in January 2011.
This is dreamgirl Hema Malini’s bungalow at Gokuldham in Goregaon (east).
Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar moved into this five-storeyed bungalow, spread over 6,000 square feet, at 19-A, Perry Cross Road, a coveted address in the queen of the suburbs (Bandra), back in 2011. He earlier resided in La Mer building, also in Bandra.
Star-studded apartment buildings in Mumbai
We zoom in on few buildings that are thickly populated by Bollywood residents. Oberoi Springs on Andheri Link Road seems to be one complex where many Bollywood personalities have rented or bought houses. Kangna Ranaut recently got herself a flat in the highrise. Akshay Kumar, Hema Malini and Bobby Deol have invested in flats in the complex. South star Dhanush, Esha Gupta, Yaami Gautam, Hansika Motwane, Claudia Ciesla and Ayushmann Khurrana also have flats here.
Oberoi Sky Gardens (Lokhandwala): Singer-turned-actor Himesh Reshammiya grabbed headlines when he booked a duplex flat in this building, which is said to be one of the most expensive houses in Andheri. His neighbours include Farah Khan, Manoj Bajpayee, Shriya Saran, Ganesh Hegde, Adnan Sami, Allan Amin, Bhushan Kumar and Adnan Sami.
Garden Estate (Goregaon Link Road): This particular place can easily be called a star building as it occupies the maximum number of actors in the industry. While Ranveer and Konkona Sen Sharma moved out of their house and shifted to Versova, some of those still staying here are Rajat Kapoor, Ravi Kishan, Vinay Pathak, Deepak Tijori, Yash Tonk, Chavi Mittal, Hansal Mehta, Shweta Bharadwaj, Akhilendra Mishra, Aditya Lakhia, Sonu Walia and Babul Supriyo.
Raj Classic (Versova): The celeb address is famous for ex-lovers Shahid Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra, who were earlier staying in the building. However, some other prominent names staying in the same skyscraper are Minissha Lamba, Karan Nath, Roshan Abbas, Satish Kaushik, Pankaj Kapoor, Abbas Tryrewala, Daboo Malik, Hiten Tejwani and Amar Upadhyay.
