Huge CAKE FAIL at Kim Kardashian’s pre-wedding brunch party

23 May=2014, Alex Rees: As widely speculated, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West held a special pre-wedding brunch for their nearest and dearest this morning, hosted by for fashion designer Valentino Garavani and his partner at their chateau.

Vogue’s Andre Leon Talley was there to report/look fabulous in a big drapy cape. The Kardashian family all left their hotel in Paris this morning, their exits staggered carefully — presumably to max out the photo opportunities. Kanye made his way through the baying crowds first, looking very dapper in a midnight blue suit:

Then came Kim, wearing a dress covered in butterflies (pictured above) and pushing baby North West in a pram covered by a black blanket. Kris Jenner wore a cape-of-sorts with a lovely ruffly neckline which she will have had to take off before arriving at the brunch because capes are Andre Leon Talley’s territory, remember? Khloe, Kourtney, Kendall, and Kylie all followed — Kylie still has blue hair, by the way — and then Bruce Jenner left looking like this:

So he’s not going to the brunch, then. Oh well. The folks that were going rolled up to Valentino’s chateau in a convoy of black cars with tinted windows, which seems a bit much. Once inside, they all posed for glamorous photos in the chateau’s grounds.
Incidentally, Khloe is wearing a dress previously worn by her Mom. There’s already a “who wore it better?” poll out there, of course.

Details of the festivities once inside are a lot scarcer, because US Vogue reportedly has a digital exclusive on the event. (The coverage probably marks a compromise of sorts, so that Anna Wintour doesn’t have to attend the wedding.) That said, Franca Sozzani, editor-in-chief of Italian Vogue, did attend and shared an Instagram photo of a paltry-looking strawberry cake. Even though there’s a butler and it’s on a silver platter, it’s quite underwhelming: small and featuring some sad little fondant roses as well as the letters K&K drawn by a shaky baker’s hands. To be fair, Valentino does look displeased:
A fruit platter reflected in a mirror in the photo also looks decidedly average; don’t they have EDIBLE ARRANGEMENTS in France?! Let’s hope for everyone’s sake the food and all we’re not seeing is a bit more glamorous.

Vogue don’t want no basic pastries, after all.
