Dibrugarh, Feb 25, Sandipan Sharma: In this special report of Lok Sabha Constituency today I will try give a brief look on Dibrugarh Constituency of Assam, which is situated in the North-eastern India.

The Dibrugarh Constituency is consists of9 Legislative Assembly Constituency (LAC). They are as follows:

Session 1951(Jogendra Nath Hazarika)

In 1951the first edition of Lok Sabha election was conducted in Dibrugrah Constituency and Jogendra Nath Hazarika (INC) was elected as the first MP. There were total 148712 no of votes valid (42.82% of Total Electors). As a winner JogendraNathHazarika (INC) got total 93554 votes. Parasuram Sonowal from SP was runner up; he got a total no of 22844 votes. The margin of votes was 70710 which were 47.55% of Total Valid Votes.

Session 1957 (JogendraNathHazarika ):

In this edition of Lok Sabha election Jogendra Nath Hazarikawas selected as a MP from Dibrugarh Constituency. As a winner Jogendra Nath Hazarika (INC) got95238 votes while his rival Nibaran Chandra Bora (PSP) got25712 votes respectively. The total no of elector was346534, from which137398 no of electors voted. Total valid votes were137398 (39.65% of Total electors.

Session 1962 (Jogendra Nath Hazarika ):

In this 1962edition of Lok Sabha election Jogendra Nath Hazarika was selected as a MP from Dibrugarh Constituency. As a winner Jogendra Nath Hazarika (INC) got 98687votes while his rival Ajit Kumar Sarma (SOC) got41857 votes respectively. The total no of elector was390564, from which 181805no of electors voted. Total valid votes were. 172985 from which 8820 were rejected (4.85% of Total Votes Polled).

Session 1967 (JogendraNathHazarika):

In this 1967 edition of LokSabha election Jogendra Nath Hazarika was selected as a MP from Dibrugarh Constituency. As a winner Jogendra Nath Hazarika (INC) 77657 got votes while his rival A.K. Sarma (SSP) got 54760 votes respectively. The margin of votes was 22897 (11.25% of Total Valid Votes). The total no of elector was 399041, from which 219091 no of electors voted. Total valid votes were 203497, from which rejected votes were 15594 (7.12% of Total Votes Polled).

Session 1971 ( RobindraNathKakoti ):

In this edition of LokSabha election RobindraNathKakoti was selected as a MP from Dibrugarh Constituency. As a winner RobindraNathKakoti (INC) got 115921 votes while his rival BarinChaudhury (CPI) got 24913 votes respectively. The margin of votes was 91008 (46.13% of Total Valid Votes). The total no of elector was422229, from which212155 no of electors voted. Total valid votes were 197306, from which rejected votes were 14849 (7.00% of Total Votes Polled). There were total no of 8 contestants from Dibrugarh constituency in this session.

Session 1977 (HarenBhumji ):

In this edition of LokSabha election HarenBhumji was selected as a MP from Dibrugarh Constituency. As a winner HarenBhumji (INC) got 119882 votes while his rival GolapBorbora (BLD) got 105673 votes respectively. The margin of votes was 14209 (5.96% of Total Valid Votes). The total no of elector was 502862, from which 248898 no of electors voted. Total valid votes were 238494, from which rejected votes were 10404 (4.18% of Total Votes Polled). There were total no of 3 contestants from Dibrugarh constituency in this session. No of Polling station was 557, average no of electors per polling station was 902.

Session 1984 (HarenBhumji):

In this 1984 edition of LokSabha election HarenBhumji was selected as a MP from Dibrugarh Constituency. As a winner HarenBhumji (INC) got 229263 votes while his rival NagenSaikia (IND) got 187208 votes respectively. The margin of votes was 42055 (9.30% of Total Valid Votes). The total no of elector was 919207, from which480504 no of electors voted. Total valid votes were 452402, from which rejected votes were 28102 (5.85% of Total Votes Polled). There were total no of 8 contestants from Dibrugarh constituency in this session. No of Polling station was921, average no of electors per polling station was 998.

Session 1991 (Pawan Singh Ghatowar ):

In this edition of LokSabha election Pawan Singh Ghatowar was selected as a MP from Dibrugarh Constituency. As a winner Pawan Singh Ghatowar (INC) got 243937votes while his rival Dipen Tanti (AGP) got 106017votes respectively. The margin of votes was 137920 (28.57% of Total Valid Votes). The total no of elector was801311, from which529721 no of electors voted. Total valid votes were482722, from which rejected votes were 35796. There were total no of 12 contestants from Dibrugarh constituency in this session. No of Polling station was 1005, average no of electors per polling station was 797.

Session 1996 (Pawan Singh Ghatowar):

In this 1996 edition of LokSabha electionPawan Singh Ghatowar was selected as a MP fromDibrugarh Constituency. As a winner Pawan Singh Ghatowar(INC) got 281253votes while his rivalIsrail Nanda (AGP) got 173898votes respectively. The margin of votes were 107355 19.34% of Total Valid Votes). The total no of elector was840893, from which 591297no of electors voted. Total valid votes were 554960, from which rejected votes were 36337. There were total no of 12 contestants from Dibrugarh constituency in this session. No of Polling station was 1071, average no of electors per polling station was 785.

Session 1999 (Pawan Singh Ghatowar):

In this 1999 edition of LokSabha electionPawan Singh Ghatowar was selected as a MP from Dibrugarh Constituency. As a winner Pawan Singh Ghatowar(INC) got 270863votes while his rival Ajit Chaliha (BJP) got 203747votes respectively. The margin of votes were 67116 12.03% of Total Valid Votes). The total no of elector was945785, from which 578810 no of electors voted. Total valid votes were557674, from which rejected votes were 21136. There were total no of 6 contestants from Dibrugarh constituency in this session. No of Polling station was 1117, average no of electors per polling station was 847.

Session 2004( SarbanandaSonowal ):

In this edition of LokSabha election Sarbananda Sonowal was selected as a MP from Dibrugarh Constituency. As a winner SarbanandaSonowal (AGP) got 220944votes while his rival Kamakhaya Tasa (BJP) got votes respectively. The margin of votes was 18554 (2.94% of Total Valid Votes). The total no of elector was969905, from which no of electors voted631597. There were total no of 7 contestants from Dibrugarh constituency in this session. No of Polling station was 1117, average no of electors per polling station was 868.

Session 2009 (Pawan Singh Ghatowar):

In this 2009 edition of LokSabha election Pawan Singh Ghatowar was selected as a MP from Dibrugarh Constituency. As a winner Pawan Singh Ghatowar(INC) got359163 votes while his rival Sarbananda Sonowal (AGP) got 324020votes respectively. The margin of votes was 35143. The total no of elector was1114965, from which750274 no of electors voted. There were total no of 10 contestants from Dibrugarh constituency in this session. No of Polling station was 1190, average no of electors per polling station was 935.
