Kaliabor Lok Sabha Constituency

There are total no of 10 MP’s selected from this Constituency till today. In 1967 the first  MP was selected from the Kalibor Constituency for the first time and the candidate was Bedabrata Barua ,who was representing Indian National Congress (INC).

Session  1967 (Bedabrata Barua)

After skipping the first three Lok Sabha election in this session the 4th Lok Sabha Election was held on Kaliabor Constituency.In the first edition of  Lok  Sabha election of  Kaliabor Constituency Bedabrata Barua was elected as the first MP. He was contesting Lok Sabha election from this constituency as a candidate of  Indian National Congress (INC). There were total  216215 no of votes valid (57.71% % of Total Electors). As a winner Bedabrata Barua got total 106672 votes. K. Bezbaruah  from SSP was runner up , he got a total no of 58783 votes. The margin of votes was 47889 which was 22.15% of Total Valid Votes .

Session 1971 (Bedabrata Barua):

In this session Date of  polling was 3rd Jan 1971. Bedabrata Barua from Indian National Congress(INC) and Jadu Nath Saikia  (CPI) got 128268  and 27580 votes respectively. The margin of votes were 100688 (51.61% of Total Valid Votes )  The valid votes were 195099 (47.65% of Total Electors). There were total five contestant for this election in this time.

Session 1977 (Bedabrata Barua):

In this session of  Lok Sabha election last time winner Bedabrata Barua was  again elected as a 3rd MP for the Kaliabor Constituency. This time the polling was held on 16th  March 1977. As a candidate of  Indian National Congress (INC) Bedabrata Barua got 155428 no of votes and became winner Ajit Kumar Sarmah (BLD) was the runner up and he got 84271 votes. Votes margin was 71157 , which was 24.69%  of total Valid Votes .

Session 1985 (Bhadreshwar Tanti):

In this edition of  Lok Sabha election was held on 16th  Dec 1985  in this constituency. As an independent (IND)  candidate  Bhadreshwar Tanti got 240647 votes and become winner and become 4th MP of this Constituency. while his rival Tarun Gogoi candidate from Indian National Congress (INC) got 151647  votes. The winning margin was  89000 (15.36% of  total Valid Votes ).There was total 605728 no of elector. From which 579280  no of votes were polled in which 26448 votes was declared as rejected.

Session 1991 (Tarun Gogoi ):

In this session of  Lok Sabha election there was 12 no of  total candidate from this  Kaliabor Constituency. The polling was held on 23rd June 1991. There was total 908505  no of elector. From which 680628 no of votes were polled in which 32957  votes was declared as rejected which was 4.84% of Total Votes Polled. Last time runner up Tarun  Gogoi from Indian National Congress (INC) was elected again as a 5th MP from the Kaliabor  Constituency. He defeated Debeshwar Bora  (AGP). Tarun  Gogoi  got 295049  votes While his rival Debeshwar Bora  got 170330 votes. The margin of votes was 124719 (19.26% of Total Valid Votes ).

Session 1996(Keshab Mahanta):

In this time Keshab Mahanta was selected as a MP for Kaliabor  Constituency from Asom Gana Parishad (AGP).This time from this Constituency nine candidate was battling for election. In this session the battle was between Keshab Mahanta Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and Tarun  Gogoi  (INC). When the final results declared Keshab Mahanta (AGP) got 283086  votes while Tarun  Gogoi  (INC)  got 281470  votes. Dev Kant Barooah won with a margin of just 1616 votes (0.22% of Total Valid Votes ).

Session 1998 (Tarun  Gogoi  ):

This 12th  edition of  Lok Sabha election was held on 16th Feb 1998.There were total 1340  no of polling stations. Average electors per polling stations was 829 .There are total 641128 no of valid votes. Tarun  Gogoi  who was Indian National Congress  candidate got 383822 votes and he defeated Keshab Mahanta  an Asom Gana Parishad (AGP)  candidate who got 151487 votes. Tarun  Gogoi  won by a margin 232335  (36.24% of Total Valid Votes ).

Session 1999 (Tarun Gogoi):

In this edition of  Lok Sabha election , Tarun Gogoi  as a 8th  MP from Kaliabor Constituency was selected. He was representing for Indian National Congress   (INC) .While his main rival was again Keshab Mahanta  from  Asom Gana Parishad (AGP)  got only 206150 votes while Tarun Gogoi  managed to get 373542 votes. The votes margin was 167392 (22.06%  of Total Valid Votes ) .There was total eight  no of candidate for MP election in this session. The total no of elector was 1111536. From which 779525 elector voted (70.13% of Total Electors) in this session. 20815 no of votes were declared as rejectd. Total 758710 no of votes were accepted as a valid. Polling was held on 3rd OCT 1999. There were total 1342 no of polling stations. Average electors per polling station were 828.

Session 2004  (Dip Gogoi):

In this edition of  Lok Sabha election , Dip Gogoi  as a 9th  MP from Kaliabor Constituency was selected. He was a candidate  of Indian National Congress   (INC) .While his main rival was Keshab Mahanta  from  Asom Gana Parishad (AGP)  got only 234623 votes while Dip Gogoi   of Indain Natioan Congress (INC) managed to get 301831 votes. The votes margin was 67205 (4.06%  of Total Valid Votes ) .There was total 11t  no of candidate for MP election in this session. Total 763083 no of votes were accepted as a valid.

Session 2009 (Dip Gogoi):

In this edition of  Lok Sabha election , Dip Gogoi as a 8th MP from Kaliabor Constituency was selected . He became MP for the 2nd time and he is also  current MP of Kalibor.He was representing for INC .While his main rival Gunin Hazarika  from  Asom Gana Parishad (AGP)  got only 282687 votes while Dip Gogoi  managed to get 434676 votes. The votes margin was 151989 .There was total ten  no of candidate for MP election in this session but two of them withdrawn their name before election. The total no of elector was 1348371 . From which 960563 elector voted in this session. 215 no of votes were declared as rejectd. Total 960348  no of votes were accepted as a valid. Polling Percentage was 71.24.Polling was held on 16th May 2009. There were total 1423  no of polling stations. Average electors per polling station was 946.
