7 Member Committee Constituted To Probe Against Sexual Harrasment Case Of IIT Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar, 8 May-2014, Abhijit Saha: A committee consisting of 7 members has been constituted by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) – Bhubaneswar in Odisha. This committee has started its investigation into the allegation of sexual harassment charged by 2 girl students of MTech against a professor of the institute.

The officials of the institute have already asked the indicted professor to go on indefinite leave till the inquiry process is over.

IIT sources said that the 7 member committee investigating the allegations has 5 women members including the head Prof Seema Bahinipati.

On 27th April, 2 girl students of MTech 2nd year had lodged a complaint with the director of the institute, against the accused professor for sexually harassing them over the last few months. In their complaint, they had also alleged that the professor used to call them frequently to his chamber.

The Registrar of IIT Bhubaneswar, B K Ray said that they have formed a committee on Monday to conduct an inquiry after they received formal complaints from the girls.

The issue has created rage among the students who have demanded harsh action against the accused professor.
