Srinagar, 8 May-2014, Peerzada Mansoor: Unidentified gunmen on Thursday evening shot a Sarpanch of ruling National Conference in Wanpoo area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

According to reports at least two unidentified militants entered inside the shop of Gul Mohammad Bhat (70) S/o of Abdul Ganie Bhat at main Bazar Wanpoo. Gul Muhammad, an inhabitant of Wanpoo Village was shifted to district Hospital, however, the doctors attended him referred him to Srinagar for specialized treatment. Sources said Gul Muhammad was shot with two bullets in his chest. Gul Muhammad breathed his last on way to hospital near Awantipora, eyewitnesses said. This incident happened a day after Parliamentary election came to an end in Kashmir Valley. Prior to election, at-least three sarpanch’s and a numerdar (village head) were killed in south Kashmir last month. Meanwhile, forces have cordoned off the area to nab the suspected militants.
