Advocate taken into preventive custody
A 40-year-old advocate, Siddharth Gupta, was taken into preventive custody by TT Nagar police in Bhopal on Thursday evening.
“The police had received input that Gupta had plans to create trouble during the PM’s visit on Friday. He had allegedly planned a self-immolation episode of three youngsters during the passing of PM’s carcade towards Lal Parade Ground,” a TT Nagar police officer told HT.
Gupta was shifted to Ratibad police station from TT Nagar police station later.
The entire route connecting the state hanger to Lal Parade Ground, Habibganj Jain Temple and the Shaurya Smarak turned into a virtual fortress, dotted with countless policemen.
Barricades had been put all across the route through which the PM’s motorcade passed to and from between 4.10pm and 6.30pm.
With a large part of road being closed for vehicular traffic in MP Nagar and adjoining areas, commuters had to wait for long time to reach their destination owing to traffic snarls at various points in MP Nagar and New Market.
A group of women had a verbal spat with some policemen near the MP Nagar police station after being stopped there for a long time for ensuring a smooth passage for the PM’s motorcade.
Superintendent of police (North) Arvind Saxena and additional superintendent of police (Traffic) Sameer Yadav the programme passed through sans any incident owing to the heavy security presence.
After the completion of the PM programme, the entire police machinery was pressed into action to ensure smooth traffic flow, particularly the exit of 1,500 buses that had come to the state capital.
