Two held in Gzb for fleeing with truck carrying cookers, paint worth Rs 55 lakh

Peeyush Khandelwal, Ghaziabad: The police on Wednesday arrested two men and recovered a truck, paint

drums and pressure cookers worth nearly Rs 55 lakh from their possession. The truck’s driver and conductor had started from Ghaziabad for Agra on the night of September 29, but went missing along the way with the truck and the material.
The police arrested truck driver Rashid and alleged accomplice Abid who are accused of robbing the truck and the material. The police said that conductor Nasir and two other suspects Abdul and Asif are still absconding.
“Both Rashid and Nasir planned to escape with the truck laden with the material. Once they reached Aligarh, they dumped the truck at a different location, took along the material and hid it at a hideout belonging to Asif. Initially, after the truck went missing, the transporters thought that the driver and conductor had been targeted by robbers and the truck taken away,” said Salmantaj Patil, superintendent of police (city).
“Both the driver and conductor had also switched off their mobile phones, but later upon getting information, police got suspicious,” Patil said.
The morning after the truck went missing, the transporter checked its GPS location and found that the truck had not reached the destination and was found somewhere near Aligarh.
“We informed the police immediately and also provided the numbers of the truck driver and the conductor. Police teams went for investigation and used electronic surveillance methods. They later found that the two had planned to flee with the vehicle and the material,” said Manoj Garg, the transporter.
The police said that the search of the absconding accused is underway and they will be nabbed soon.
