‘Regularise our jobs or give nod for euthanasia’

HT Correspondent, Bhopal: About 1,500 home guards on Friday staged a dharna at the Home Guard Lines and

sought permission for euthanasia over their demand for regularisation of their service.
The government recruited about 2,700 home guards in March 2015 under proper procedure to serve at Simhastha fair at Ujjain. On Friday, they were asked to return their kit and uniform.
“The government is kicking our stomach by not regularizing. We would become unemployed if not being regularised. They only ask us to join the duty when they need according to the situations,” a home guard, who identified himself as Shubham, told HT.
He said after Simhastha, they were called by the government during the floods in July.
“We cannot do any other job as the private sector refuses to recruit because we have to leave the job in between when the government calls us to serve. We would be having no other option other than ending our life,” said Shubham.
Another home guard, on the condition of anonymity, said they would not be returning their kit. “We would not be returning our kit and demand the government to regularise us. We would be sitting in a dharna whole night as more of our colleagues would be joining us.”
Despite repeated attempt, HT couldn’t connect top home guard officials.
