Virtual classrooms make debut in govt middle schools in MP

Divya Raje Bhonsale, Indore: Smart virtual classrooms, which were once considered a private school thing, are

making debut in more than 200 government middle schools in MP.
After a recent survey conducted by the state education department, 224 government schools across the state have been chosen to start smart classes for the students of Classes 6, 7 and 8.
The initiative is aimed at creating technology-enhanced classrooms that foster opportunities for teaching and learning by integrating learning technology, such as computers, electronic white boards, interactive audio-video systems, etc.
Of the 224 schools, 148 were issued their login IDs last month, while the rest 76 are still waiting for their IDs.
Some of the reasons for the delay, according to a notice on the education department’s website, are connectivity problems, broken instruments and lack of modems at these schools.
When contacted, OL Mandloi, joint director of school education in Indore, said, “The local department is not looking into the matter. Everything is being handled and looked after by the state department.”
Mandloi said the setting up of smart classrooms was only for middle schools as high schools had already been using them for almost three years now.
“If I talk about the district, virtual classes have been installed in government high schools in 14 blocks of Indore that come directly under Indore district education department. Students are being taught through smart classes for at least three years. It is now that the technology is being used for middle classes as well.”
The entire process of issuing IDs and sorting out technical glitches, according to Mandloi, will take some time.
