Thousands of People attend militants’ funerals in Jammu & Kashmir

Srinagar, 14 Feb (KDC): Thousands of people Friday attended the Nimaz-e-Jinaza (funeral prayers) of two Hizbul Mujahideen militants who were killed in an encounter at Pinjora village in Shupian district south Kashmir on Thursday.

All the shops, business establishments remained closed in main town, Haripora Zainpora , Vehil and its adjoining areas, while transport was also off the roads to mourn the killing of two Hizb militants. Shutdown was also observed in Gagloora, Pinjora, Trenz, Kharampor and its adjacent areas.

The militants have been identified as Arshid Ahmad Sheikh resident of Haripora-Zanipora and Abid Ahmad Rather resident of Vehil.

Meanwhile, amid sobs and tears the two militants were laid to rest at their respective native places at Harpora Zainpora and Vehil by their relatives after police handed over them the bodies. Scores of people participated in their funeral prayers. Hurriyat (G) Chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani while addressing mourners over phone said that the struggle will continue till last soldier leaves Kashmir.

He also urged people to safeguard the sacrifices offered by the martyrs. We need to take care of the sacrifices which the people have given towards the movement and we should refrain from doing the activities that are detrimental for the interest of ongoing movement.

“Both the killed militants were instrumental in threatening Sarpanchs and Panchs in Shopian area. The weapons snatched from Police Guard at Purgochi have been recovered from the encounter site,” police added.
