College girl kidnapped from Bhopal, rescued from Ajmer

Anuraag Singh, Bhopal: A 22-year-old college student, abducted from Bhopal late last month, was rescued from Rajasthan’s Ajmer on Tuesday

and one of her two alleged abductors was arrested, the police said here on Wednesday.
Rachna Parmar, a BSc student with city-based Maharani Laxmi Bai College, was allegedly abducted by Raja alias Ranveer Singh and his accomplice Babloo alias Sadiq — both private bus drivers — near her college on August 30.
Raja, 35, is the driver of a Blue Line private bus on Mandideep-Bhopal-Mandideep route. The girl used to travel daily in his bus, the police said.
“We have arrested the prime accused Raja and are conducting raids to nab Sadiq, who used his old car to kidnap the college girl from near her college and also sent SMSes to her father for 20 lakh ransom,” said superintendent of police (Bhopal North) Arvind Saxena.
“Acting on specific inputs, we raided a hotel in Ajmer and rescued the girl from the clutches of Raja,” said additional superintendent of police (Bhopal crime branch) Shailendra Chauhan, whose team along with Shyamala Hills police cracked the case.
Probe revealed that as Rachna was daily travelling in Raja’s bus, he developed friendly relations with her by reserving seats for her and her friends in the bus.
During the period, Raja came to know that Rachna belongs to a wealthy family and started planning a plot to extort money from her father.
On August 7, Raja and Sadiq sent a threatening letter to the girl’s father Bhopal Singh Parmar, a premier labour contractor in Mandideep town in the industrial hub of adjoining Raisen district.
They also dropped a letter near her house that they would kill the entire family if the ransom money was not given.
Bhopal Singh Parmar lodged a case of criminal intimidation via anonymous communication with the Mandideep police.
“Following the threats, Rachna opted to shuttle between her collage and home with maternal uncle Swarup Singh Parmar,” police officer Saxena said.
“On August 30, she reached the college with by her uncle. When Swarup Singh Parmar returned to the college at 1 pm to take her home, he could not find her. A missing person complaint was lodged with Shymala Hills police.
“In the evening, Rachna’s father started to receive text messages about his daughter’s abduction and demand of
20 lakh ransom,” he said.
Following abducting, the kidnappers locked the girl in Sadiq’s house in Bhopal’s Ibrahimpura and later took her in a car to different places, including Indore, Ahmedabad, Mount Abu and Ajmer.
During investigation, the police came to know that the driver of the bus in which Rachna and her friends used to travel has been missing since August 7 and it led the crime branch to Ajmer.
Raja, during grilling, said he and Sadiq were zeroing in on kidnapping Rachna or her younger brother Ashish for ransom.
As Rachna’s movement was known to them, they decided to kidnap her.
“On August 30, Raja met the girl on the pretext that he knew the people who were threatening her family. She accompanied Raja and Sadiq in latter’s car to know about those people. Once outside the city, they told her the truth and also claimed that they will kill her younger brother, who was kidnapped by them. She had no option but to abide by their diktats,” said additional SP Chauhan.
