In a colourful function, the logo, song and jersey of Karaikudi Kaalai, one of the eight teams in the Tamil Nadu Premier League, was released here on Wednesday.
The team is owned by Chettinad Apparels.
Even as the team song, a traditional number composed by Krishna Iyer, played out to the accompaniment of drums, the team logo, ‘a raging bull’, was unveiled.
Karaikudi Kalai coach Robin Singh and captain S. Badrinath released the team’s green and blue jersey after which the entire side got on to the stage in the team’s attire.
Robin said he was confident about the team’s prospects in the competition while Badrinath spoke about the desire in the side.
Team owner Rajamani Muthuganesan said: “This is the first of many initiatives of the Chettinad Group. We have the right team and I wish everyone success.”
The side’s co-owner Aswin Natesan said: “We have some very good players and we have the spirit. We should go on to win the title.”
The COO of the team V. Sankupani said: “Most pieces of the jigsaw are in place. The picture will be complete once we win the tournament this year.”
Apart from Badrinath, the team has some well-known players in attacking batsman Anirudha Srikkanth and pacemen C. Ganapathy and Sunil Sam.
