2 women beaten up in MP for alleged beef carrying, uproar in Rajya Sabha for the incident

New Delhi: In the wake of the incident in Gujarat where Dalits were beaten up for skinning a dead cow in Gir Somnath, a Hindu radical group on Tuesday beat two Muslim women at Madhya Pradesh’s Mandsaur railway station allegedly over the possession of beef.

BJP raises ‘Mahilaon ke samman mein, BJP maidan mein’ slogan, yet in BJP ruled Madhya Pradesh women thrashed on beef rumours: Mayawati in Rajya Sabha

According to NDTV, police had received tip-off that two women were carrying beef, following which they were detained. However, a group of people started beating them up and abusing them verbally.

The beef was allegedly brought from Jaora to be sold in Mandsaur, the report said.

A crowd is seen surrounding the women and thrashing them, although the police attempted to keep the crowd at a distance. Finally, the police managed to take the women to the police station after half-an-hour.

Local doctors who examined the 30 kg of meat found that it was not beef, but buffalo’s meat.

The women have been produced in court by the police, but no action has been taken against the men and women who publicly assaulted the accused.

A fortnight ago, some persons who claimed to be ‘Gau-Rakshak’ (cow protectors) arrived at Mota Samadhiyala and beat up seven Dalit youths who were allegedly skinning a dead cow. The attackers alleged that the Dalits had slaughtered the cow.

Opposition BSP and Congress on Wednesday created uproar in Rajya Sabha, protesting against beating up of two Muslim women in Madhya Pradesh in the name of cow protection.

No sooner had listed papers been laid on the table of the House, Mayawati (BSP) said after beating of Dalit youths in Gujarat, ‘Gau Raksha’ (cow protection) groups beat up two women in Madhya Pradesh over suspicion of possessing beef.

The incident at the Mandsaur railway station occurred in presence of the police which remained a mute spectator, she alleged.

BJP, on the one hand, talks of protecting the girl child and giving dignity and honour to women but on the other unleashes goons on them, she charged.

The incident in BJP-ruled Madhya Pradesh comes close on the heels of beating of four dalit youth in party’s bastion Gujarat, she said.

She asked Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi to respond to targeting of women of his community in the name of cow protection.

As she completed her submission, BSP members trooped into the Well of the House, shouting anti-government slogans.

Congress members too joined them in the well.
