Bhubaneswar, February 13, Abhijit Saha: The IIT Bhubaneswar will be shifting to its new campus location at Arugul by July this year the Director Prof Madhusudan Chakraborty said on Wednesday. He was speaking in a function on the 6th Foundation Day.

Mr. Chakraborty said that the construction of the administrative building, laboratories, 40 staff quarters, boys hostel with 800 seats and girls hostel with 200 seats are likely to be completed by April this year. At present the institute is having about 780 students and 127 research scholars who are pursuing their academics in various disciplines.
Presently operation of the institute is running from two different places one near Janata Maidan and the other in Toshali Plaza in Satya Nagar. For this the students are staying in rented houses in different places in the city. Managing the students in different location has been a major problem faced by the institution.
Earlier in 2009 the State Government had granted about 936 acres of land to the institute in Arugul near Jatni.
Srikumar Banerjee Ex- Secretary of Department of Atomic Energy also spoke at the function of the foundation day lecture. He delivered lecture about the country’s advantageous demographic dividend where he said that about 30 percent of our country’s population will be under the age of 25 years even after 20 years from now. Nevertheless, the dividend will become a burden if the youths do not get the opportunity to grow.
Mr. Chakraborty said that lots of new courses will be introduced by the institute in the coming years and four new courses will be introduced in joint MSc by this year itself and on next year they will introduce MSc in Atmospheric and Oceanic Science and also B. Tech in Metallurgical and Meterials Science.
85 new faculty positions has also been approved by the institute’s board and some other position rather than teaching are also on the move in IIT Bhubaneswar.
