NEW DELHI:Centre pools in its resources to make Allahabad ready to host the two-day BJP national executive scheduled on June 12 and 13. Urban development ministry has moved its resources from Lucknow and Varanasi to clean up the city ahead of the meet. Top brass of the BJP including
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and chief ministers of BJP ruled states will be at Allahabad for the two- day event.
The state government under the smart city mission has been laying sewer across Allahabad. The city has received funds from the United States Trade and Development Agency for undertaking the development work under the mission. “The entire city roads are dug up to lay sewer lines. We are expecting over five hundred people. Currently there are no roads in the city to handle such massive traffic,” said a BJP leader managing preparations at Allahabad.
To avoid any last moment menace, urban development ministry’s resources from other cities have been placed at the disposal of Allahabad. The ministry is engaged in temporarily relaying of the dug
up roads to provide smooth passage to the VIP vehicles. Mechanised city sweepers from Lucknow and Varanasi have also been shifted to Allahabad to sweep clean the streets. Loosely hanging electric wires
are also been tucked and tied to give the city a cleaner look. Teams have been put in place to clean up the ghats of Trivani. “The schedule is not confirmed to us, but Prime Minister might come to the ghat for evening prayer,” said a BJP workers.
Sources in the union development ministry confirmed the temporary shifting of the resources. “Most of the things are at the disposal of the state. We had received some request at the local level and help is being extended,” said a senior union development ministry functionary. He however refused to comment on the cost incurred and its recovery by the ministry.
At KP inter-college ground, the venue for the meet, a water proof air conditioned tent is being pitched to host about 500 participants for the event. An agency from Varanasi has been given the task of putting
up the tent. Sources in Allahabad informed that a tent was pitched earlier this week, but sudden heavy winds and down pour damaged the structure erected.
“The weather is unpredictable. We cannot afford any such damage on those two-days. We realised that Allahabad did not have adequate facilities. Water proof, wind proof and air condition tents have been
called from Varanasi to hold the function,” said one of the organisers.
A senior BJP leader in Delhi when contacted refused to comment on the role of the UD ministry for preparation in Allahabad.
