She is the first woman to be signed on by TVS Racing and will be competing in the Indian National Rally championship this year. Shreya Sunder Iyer, 24, who started motor racing at the age of 17, is the first woman rider to be part of any racing team in India.
A report in The Hindu BusinessLine quotes Arvind Pangaonkar, Head of Team TVS Racing, as saying, “We believe that her participation will encourage women to consider racing as a career. TVS Racing is strongly committed to promoting 2-wheeler racing in India and generate interest and improve support for the sport in India. We make continuous efforts to take the sport to as many sections of the society as possible and create the ultimate machine and promote the riders for these machines.”
In a statement, Shreya Sundar Iyer said, “I am proud to be a part of the TVS Racing team. TVS Racing is by far the best Indian racing team with the best motorbikes and trainers. This association will help me work with the best in class machines, racers, and technology. I also hope to encourage young bikers, especially women to follow their passion for racing and live their dreams.”
Shreya Iyer has ridden across India and has even taken part in a Southern India biking expedition of 2,000 kms in 6 days. TVS Racing was the first Indian company to take part in the Dakar rally in 2015. it was started 33 years ago and has been taking part in off-road racing events.
