“The fruit is ripe. We do not know when it will fall,” he said when asked whether the alliance between the two parties had been firmed up. “I have confidence that the DMDK will certainly join us,” he told reporters after completing interviews with DMK aspirants in all the 234 constituencies in Tamil Nadu and 30 constituencies in Puducherry.

No hitch, says DMK chief

Though Mr. Karunanidhi declined to go into the details, he claimed there was no hitch. “I cannot reveal anything more at this point,” he said when asked about the demands of the DMDK.

He said the DMK had not invited any other party to the alliance, while announcing that the manifesto for the elections would be released in a couple of days.

The DMK leader said the party had collected over Rs. 12.37 crore through the sale of application and deposits from the aspiring candidates. A total of 4,362 aspirants were interviewed for all the 234 constituencies in Tamil Nadu and 71 persons for Puducherry and Karaikal.

On Tuesday, he also interviewed DMK treasurer M.K. Stalin who has sought to re-contest from the Kolathur constituency.
